Mountain Grassroots Association aims to promote the practical development of cooperation between Switzerland and other mountainous countries through the exchange of knowledge, experience, and culture at the grassroots level.

Many mountainous regions are undergoing rapid structural changes, accompanied by enormous societal challenges (e.g. rural-urban migration) and environmental issues. Mountain Grassroots Association therefore seeks to help empower young people in mountainous regions to be active in improving their living conditions and taking responsibility for their own environment.

The approach takes a balanced exchange of experience and know-how as its basis. Knowledge from traditional, local, and modern sources are taken equally into account. Equalized encounters, shared experiences, and practice-oriented cooperation serve to develop new perspectives and solutions. Local knowledge and know-how are therefore strengthened at the grassroots level.

Mountain Grassroots Association is a non-profit association based in Switzerland. Currently, the association operates primarily in Bhutan, a small kingdom in the eastern Himalayas.
